I have an old iMac with OS9 and know of someone who could use it for word processing. He doesn't need or want an Internet connection. I'd like to give it to him but need to ensure that the HD is wiped clean.

Comments appreciated ...

Do you mean that if you just erase the Disk he might get a recovery App to try and reconstruct your data?

Yes, I would like to corrupt the data ... anyway, do more than just put it into trash and empty. I trust the person in question but who knows what might happen when he disposes of it.

in disk utility you can trash stuff, and select erase free space afterwards

Do you still have the OS 9 install disks. I believe the application you will use is disk first aid. You can use this to wipe the disk clean and install a fresh image of OS 9.

OK ... I would reinstall OS 9 and give him the disks. I just can't bear to throw the iMac away. But there's no room in the house!
