Hi,

After successfull installing Windows XP SP3 via Bootcamp two nights ago, and testing it lots of times successfully, I installed around 61 updates using Windows Update last night. This morning, when I tried to boot to XP, all I got was the splash screen and it booted into Mac OSX. I then tried it in Safe mode, and again it booted into Mac OSX.

Anyone have any ideas or do I need to re-install Windoze again and this time not bother using Windows Update?

Ta,
K

Simpson, eh?

How about trying this:

Reboot again but this time hold down your "OPTION" key as soon as you hear the POST chime. Choose Windows and press enter.

Let us know what happens.

Regards.

Actually I've been using this method anyway as per the Boot Camp PDF. It did work prior to installing the Windows Updates.

Here's what happens when I boot it in Safe Mode:

A black screen appears for about 1 second with lots of lines referring to 'multi-disk partitions' then a blue screen appears for a milli-second, then straight into Mac OSX.

OK. It sure sounds like the Windows updates somehow zapped your XP's ability to boot. I think that it might be best to use Boot Camp assistant and remove the Windows partition. Revert everything back to OS X.

Redo the BC partition and install XP again. Or, you might want to buy a copy of Windows 7 instead.

Regards.

Pretty much my thoughts. Although as I need to use Windows for my business (unfortunately) I think it may be best to buy a laptop (with Win7 on it of course!)

Thanks for your help anyway.

As discussed previously . . . . . I still think using VM would be best . . . . and free if you use VirtualBox.

External hard disk acquisition addict - but admitting the problem is the first step to a robust backup

Bastogne... "N***"

The guys needs real Windows to work... not OS.noX... his aps are for Windows.
Why should he go for a VW? Bootcamp works, he just needs to install it properly.

Redo the Bootcamp. install. Setup XP.
Under the Bootcamp in Windows or OS.X set Windows as the default boot option
as soon as Windows is running, before you go all the was to SP3.

I had to redo one XP install twice, the first time I did it, similar issue. Removed the Bootcamp
partition, redid from scratch, then all was fine.
