I am working on an iBook Clamshell. I am planning to get a Yo-Yo charger after grief with third-party "solutions" and also got my replacement Apple logo for the lid (thanks VintageApple!). I am planning to get an airport card too.

As far as operating systems go, I was planning to put Xubuntu on it. I hear its a better choice because it uses a lighter window manager. I also want to put a Leopard theme on it:
Design your own desktop with Xfce 4.4 – part 2 « Xubuntu Blog

Would you say Xubuntu is a good path to go down (note I am quite picky about Linux flavours)?

Ubuntu is a good choice as Linux distributions go. It's well supported, busy forums, lots of users, lots of software, great free application repository.

Regards.

I have used Ubuntu and Xubuntu before.

Both run very well, Xubuntu is lighter but Ubuntu is not very demanding either.

I think it comes down to preference (if both OS run well).

You can always try them both...

Oh, and Xubuntu has great support as well as Ubuntu and Kubuntu.

Just go to the Ubuntu forums if you need any help.

Thank you both!
I won't forget to get the PPC alternative version too. I hear live CD is sometimes iffy on the Clam.

I would advise Debian Lenny on such a machine....it's a G3 and is quite slow. i would also advise to run XFCE, is less power consuming

see for basic information about running linux on Macs:

I'll take a look at Debian Lenny. FYI Xubuntu gets its name because it uses XFCE.
