Hi! I am just a new user to iMac evn though the iMac I use is an old one with an OS of version 9.1 . So can anybody could give me some ideas how do I upgrade my OS 9.1 to latest version of OS X? Is there any possibilty that it could be upgraded to OS X Snow Leopard? I would really appreciate solutions. Thank you.

Depending on the model, I would say it will run 10.4 Tiger - depending on the ram installed, but Tiger is a fantastic OS

Leopard needs a G4 processor, and Snow Leopard needs an Intel chip

Thank you Louishen for your advice...and I see you are "member of the month", cheers mate!! Ok, I looked at the backside of my iMac, the specifications described were 400MHz/512K/L2/64MB/10GB/DVD/GP. Similarly, I checked the system profile, I came to know that it is Mac OS Z 1-9.1 with Mac OS ROM 7.3.1 and built-in memory of 320 MB. Also to be more specific, its family number is M5521. So I guess it would be easy for you to tell what should I go for. And can I have OS downloaded from any website for free? ?Thanks once again.

I'm not sure if you could upgrade an OS 9.1 to 10.4, because (as far as I know) they use Intel processors.

Tiger will run fine on a PPC Mac - see the system requirements here.

Tiger OS X.4 will be great as vansmith advises, but say 1GB memory would be much better and you will be doing a clean install rather than an upgrade. Your model iMac requires a firmware update, available here, prior to loading any version of OS X:-
