Other - Send Word Mac to Windows word

I am not able to send a Microsoft Word document to my Windows XP system and open it. On my Mac I use Word 2001 and on the Windows computer I have Word 2003.
Any advice?

Any kind of error message when you attempt to open the document? How are you transferring it to the Windows machine?

After it is sent from my Mac to Windows I try to open it and a pop up says unknown file type and a unknown publisher.

Am I to assume you're sending it via email? And if so, are you using Mail.app to do so?

Mac OS X includes an email client called "Mail" (referred to as Mail.app, to avoid confusion). It has an icon that looks like a stamp. Is that what you're using to send the email?

When you attach the file via Mail, there should be a checkbox at the bottom of the window, like this:

Is the box checked?

Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!
