I got a message about deleting and reloading the harddrive or something like that in Settings. I did it and it tried to load, but now I get a message "no bootable device detected". How can I get vmware to "see" Windows again?

You may be able to do a "repair" of Windows from within the Fusion VM although I'm uncertain if it will work correctly. Other than the repair solution, the only other method might be to remove the VM and start over. A definite pain but it might turn out to be the only way. Try the repair first.

Something else: Check the hidden system file "boot.ini" which should be in the root directory of your Windows VM. Make sure it's pointing to the correct partition and Windows folder. Take a look at the follow KB article from MS:

How to edit the Boot.ini file in Windows XP

Regards.
