Windows - 2 questions regarding Messenger for Mac

Firstly, why do us Mac users have to make do with the 1996 version of msn messenger, is it a rivalry thing between Gates and Jobs? Will we ever be able to update our messenger for Mac software to the standard that Windows users enjoy?

Secondly, how do you find out of somebody has blocked you on the Mac version?
