Sharing between 9.2 and OSX

I have a friend who is trying to connect a new OSX machine to his old 9.2 machine. They connected the two machines via the ethernet port and turned on file sharing but the machines can't see each other. Is this even possible?

manx could your friend's 'new' computer be running Leopard which will have difficulty communicating with a Classic machine. Have a look at this link:-
