As the title says, I'm trying to connect my Macbook to my HDTV. Also, I would like to be able to output an HD signal. How can I go about this? Is the only way to use:: Mini-DVI to DVI then DVI to HDMI? Or can I use any other method? Also, do I have to run sound to the TV as well, or does the DVI cable do that too?
QUOTE Thanks

DVI does not run sound to the television. HDMI is the output that delivers sound and that is only through an HDMI to HDMI connection. The sound will still come through your macbook speakers. I'm not sure if this will work or not, I know I've done it with a Powerbook so that might give you some hope. Just know that it may not look that great since most TV resolutions are different then the computer ones. You may end up with a blurry picture like I did.

i have the miniDVI to vga (computer monitor cable) and i plug that into my HDTV

For sound go to radio shack, i think walmart has them as well, and get the 3.5mm headphone jack to composite (red and white) Y cable

make sure you get your cables at monoprice.com so you don't pay 10x what you have to.

This will work, but I also used a Radioshack 3.5mm to 3.5mm stereo cable to go through my DVD player. This worked for me, but may not be what you were looking for.
