Hey MacForums, I'm a noobie to the website, but i've exhausted all of my other searching techniques. Google just didn't do it, so I have resorted to the experts. I'm a poor college student and for Christmas my parents bought me a PS3. I know, lots of fun. Unfortunately, I don't have the money to buy a proper TV to display it on. My friend just hooked his up to his external monitor for his computer, which is a dell. That plays in 720p, which is a great step up from where I am now. He used a DVI to HDMI connection.

Heres my question, I have a Flat panel Imac (20') G4 (With the dome) which only has a Mini VGA connection. Would it be possible to play the PS3 on this computer, how would it be done, and what needs to be bought? The PS3 has the red, white, yellow cables option, the s-video option, and HDMI option. I'm assuming HDMI would be ideal. Thanks in advance.

No, it's not possible from my knowledge. The miniDVI is for video output only. The only devices I know of for input would have a coaxial connection to receive a cable TV signal.
If you were to use the RCA connectors, any TV will suffice. That. Is a low quality connection and an HDTV will not help in that situation. don't forget, the PS3 also supports the component connection. My HDTV doesn't like to connect to my PS3 via HDMI. Component looks just a nice so I could careless.

I assume you mean mini VGA is for video output only.

would this do anything? I believe I would still have to source my sound none the less.

Yes, I meant VGA, not DVI.
Did you read the description for that item? It says multiple times that it is for video output.
No matter what sort of thing you find for the mini VGA port, that port is output only. The only way you might find something that works is by finding something with a USB interface. That's the only way you'll find something that might work.
there isn't any way of getting only the monitor to work so you'd have to find an app that could take your video game and display it full screen while making it look pretty. I don't know of such a thing.
I don't think Apple even makes a monitor that supports external sources like your friends Dell does.
