External Hard Drive partition question

Hello I have a 350GB external HDD but I have files already stored on it now I wish to know if there is any way I can partition these hard drive so i am able t use time machine and not lose the files currently stored on the hard drive using disk utility of my mac?

From my understanding, you will need to back up your data some where and then do the repartitioning.

Yep you should be able to do it Using "Disk Utility" as far as I know but back up whats on there FIRST! as it will be lost.

If you use resize option, you wont need to backup the data first.
