Epson has the 1400 which is a 13" (on the smaller side) dye ink based printer and it's $300 after rebate. The Epson 1800 is a 13" (on the smaller side) pigment based printer but it is $449 after rebate. The advantage of the dye inks are richer colors because of the wider gammut. The advantage of the pigment inks are more fade resistant than dye inks. Plus, the 1800 has a glossy optimizer cartridge will make those prints really shine if you are printing on glossy paper. I really don't know much about Canon printers. Visit Canon for more info. If you are doing fine art work, a pigment based printer will be best for you. I don't own either. I don't like most digital prints. The quality just isn't high enough for me yet. I could check to see what photo printers we have on display at work and see if I can tell the difference for you between two printers of your choice. We keep pretty up to date. I know we have the new Epson 3880 on display. I shouldn't have a problem getting some test prints done for you. January 2008 Member of the Month Last edited by bryphotoguy; 11-25-2007 at 09:43 AM. |

I am not going to test all the printers for you. I think we have a dozen of them on display. Tell me what two you decide on and I can get some prints made if you need help deciding between them.
