Could anyone recomend me a cheap, reliable, and cool looking external HDD / enclosure for my iMac? My HDD ran out of room, and I want more music. I have a 40GB drive I could use, but whatever works. It has to be IDE (with the enclosure only) and firewire.

I've found that most external enclosures are built more for cheapness and looks than reliability. Most of them (even from the drive manufacturers) seem to bake the drives to death. This is, obviously, not a good thing. There are very few enclosures that I can recommend...

AMS VENUS DS3 DS-PL3507CBK Aluminum 3.5" USB 2.0 & FireWire 400 External Enclosure - OEM
Galaxy METAL GEAR 3507UEP-Black 3.5" Black USB 2.0 & 1394a External Enclosure - Retail
AMS VENUS DS-2316CBK 3.5" USB & 1394 Black External Enclosure - Retail
APRICORN EZ-BUS-DTC-KIT Aluminum 3.5" USB & 1394 External Enclosure - Retail

Those are the only enclosures Newegg carries with a firewire interface and an IDE interface that I'd recommend.

That would be my first choice; I haven't owned it personally but I have a different brand that's a similar design and it works very well.

I really enjoy the vantec enclosures quite a bit, their build quality is fab. They also have firewire models. If you'd like to read a little review : http://ghostknox.com/vantec-nexstar-review/
I also have this one by vantec http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817145126

I'm getting ready to purchase an SATA enclosure http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817198007 Probably that one. I think they have a standard ATA one as well.
