I have a set of M-Audio StudioPro 9 monitors. They don't have booming base because of lack of a subwoofer, but they do have much better sound quality than any of the subwoofer/satellite speaker systems out there. The reason is that they're made for people who work in audio and produce great midrange. There isn't a satellite speaker set out there that can produce good mid range.
Whatever you do, don't get the Klipsch Pro Audio set. The brand is supposed to be high end in audio, but for some reason the connection on these things are complete junk and are notorious for breaking down quickly. BTW: this thread really belong in Other Hardware and Peripherals.
