External HD problems with OS X, Help?!
I have a 30 GB Archos that works like an external hard drive. The few times I connected it to my mac by usb, it worked fine and transfered files without any problems. But then for some reason now, whenever I plug it in, the hard drive doesnt appear on the desktop and then after about one minute, it completely freezes OS X except for the mouse. How come? Help please, I need to transfer these files on there real bad.

Oh, also in general, many times when I plug in external hard drives, they just don't show up on the desktop at all. How come?

    Help GREATLY appreciated, thank you

Have you tried a different cable? Tried connecting it to another machine to see if it's recognized? Does it show up in Disk Utility?
Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!
