I have one of the plastic frame 23" HD Cinema Displays that uses ADC to connect to a computer. I would like to be able to connect this to a non-apple laptop that only has a VGA output. I have the DVI/ADC converter from apple. Is making another change (vga-dvi) going to cause problems? Has anyone done it before?

Okay, so I think I know why this is not working. The Apple ACD-DVI converter converts to DVI-D. It is digital only. So you cannot simply add an adapter to get it VGA, it would require another conversion from Digital to Analog. Which means either a new video card if you're dealing with a desktop PC or another expensive converter for my vga-only laptop. This is kind of ridiculous. For the cost of any of those converters I might as well buy a new LCD display.

Yeah, you can't go from a VGA (analogue) output to a DVI-D (digital) monitor without some pretty expensive equipment (vice-versa is pretty easy/cheap).

I don't know why people still insist on putting VGA on their graphics cards; Apple went digital about 7 years ago... why is everyone else so reluctant to follow?
