Control Apple TV from iTunes

I was at a friend's place earlier using his Atv on his TV to play music and I found it very time consuming scrolling down and up to find the song or artist etc, to play.

I had the smart idea that "surly, as iTunes is running on his MPB and connected to the Atv, I should be able to find what I want and make the Atv play it."

That was not the case, I could see the Atv, but everything was greyed out. Does he have it set up wrong, or is it realy not possible to control the Atv as a device from iTunes?

I to have been looking for a way to control APTV from itunes.
There also should be a remote control that displays play lists that is RF or Bluetooth.
Have you found anything?
