external hardrive not wanting to connect

i searched and found no thread on this. but i recently bought a seagate 400g exhd. it worked well yesterday with my new imac but today when i turned on my computer and the hd on it said a screen popped up and said "intialize" "ignore" "eject" what should i do? i clicked on initialize but nothing on that menu helped. thanks.

I don't know for sure, but I would have done as you did. Next I would eject it, then turn it off. Unplug it, plug it back in, and turn it back on. Is it firewire or USB connection?

its firewire. i already tried that and it didnt work. im ok with like reformating it cuz i only had like 3 video clips on their . i just want it to work again!
