hello, i'm looking to move overseas and want to leave a
backup hard drive here at home with all my stuff, just in case i lose my laptop over there or it just dies. i'm not sure what external hard drives are reliable and appropriate for my 933mhz G4 iBook running mac os x panther (10.3.9). i have a 40GB hard drive, so i'm looking for something that is around 40 or 50GB (a little more space never hurts, but nothing too over the top) and that connects via firewire (with the one firewire 400 port on the laptop). hoping you can bring me up to step with external hard drives for my machine. thanks! |

any external USB2 or Firewire 400 external hard drive would work, no problem.. For your situatyion, I'd get a 120gb external drive. Its really not that expensive, and it will give you room to expand in the future.

thanks for your reply. is there any specific brand of external hard drive i should go with (i.e. lacie, g-tech, etc).? i'd like to order it from the apple canada store online (or pick one up in the apple store in toronto) so i can get it within the next week or two as i leave the country in about a week and a half. i was thinking possible this one: G-Tech G-DRIVE Combo 160GB Hard Drive with FireWire 400 and USB 2.0 Interfaces http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL....8.25.7.11.3.3 |
