Are Firewire hard drives powered through the firewire connection ?I intend getting a dual USB 2.0 and Firewire 400 3 1/2" external hard drive which is supplied with it's own power supply.
When I connect it to my ibook via the Firewire port will the hard drive draw power through the Firewire connection or will I have to connect it to the mains ?
Thanks in advance,
Kevin.

You have to have the hardrive pluged in.. It will not take power from firewire to run. I think there are some drives out there that can run off of power from firewire but If the hard drive came with its own power supply it needs more power then can be taken from the firewire.
