I have a comcast wireless modem, but its signal doesn't reach to the back of my house (60 ft). I also have an airport extreme and an airport express. Can someone tell me how to set those (or one of them) up so I can get a signal in that back room so I can use my ipad? Comcast modem won't allow me to expand its network. Thanks

Have a look at this guide, see the parts at the bottom

You just need to connect to the Airport extreme (hopefully places somewhere central in the house) and make sure it can login to the exiting router and act as a range extender

when i try to set the airport extreme, the only choices are "create new network", "extend network", and off. when i select "extend network", i get a message that the comcast modem network cannot be extended.

With a quick Google search on 'comcast modem network cannot be extended' it seems that their modems may be setup differently and some hits got around the problem here that you might want to read through and depending on your own setup:
