Well it should. If this is in the iMac in your avatar, at least six years old and maybe the optical drive has failed. High failure rate slot loaders alas. I use a Samsung SE-208 external for my 2012 iMac. Cheap and works well using the dual USB connectors.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

The Apple Matsu****a UJ-875 Slot Loading DVD±RW Dual Layer is supposed to be able to burn to the D9 - Dual layer discs. I have not tried it because the discs are expensive and I haven't had a project that needed one. I have read on other forums of problems with this drive and dual layer discs. Others have reported a needed firmware upgrade fixed the problem and some said it fixed nothing. Hard to say what will happen.

I guess you could always buy one and try it.

My even older Late 2006 iMac C2d has a Matsh****a drive and supports the following:

DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW

So even this older one does +R Dual Layers.

Even my last generation iMac G5 did Dual Layer DVD and I burned many on it.

Also some users who have had burning problems recommend Patchburn.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
