Mini installs HP 4500 software but won't recognize hardware
Offers option to enter device manually, but requires an IPv4 or IPv6 address or a DNS hostname, none of which I know where to find. Connections have been checked, USB has been pulled and reconnected, printer has been turned off and on, software has been uninstalled and reinstalled.
    Thank you.

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Helps if you provide computer and operating systems entails, however is the software the latest available from the HP web site? If so does the printer appear in System Preferences > Printers & Scanners when you hit the (+) key with IUSB connection and the printer turned on?
Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

    Sorry. Mini. OSX 10.8.5

Yes, latest software from HP. No, doesn't show up in System Preferences.
