I recently set up my apple tv. I originally ran it through my Pioneer Ellite home Theater receiver utilizing the HDMI cable output to the input on my receiver for sound and picture. When I was watching a movie through the apple tv running ITunes, I set my receiver to listen in Dolby DigitaI. I only have sound coming through my center channel and sub woofer. Absolutely no sound from my right, left or surround speakers. If I select stereo on my receiver I can get sound via the right left and subwoofer, but when I re-select dolby digital, center and sub only??

I then wired audio from the apple tv to my Pioneer receiver via the Optical output. I was optimistic, but had the same results. Sound only coming from my center and sub?

Please help.

Thank you

Hello and welcome,

In my experience it is more convenient to set your AV amplifier's settings to 'Auto'.

I would disconnect the ATV and reset your amp, then reconfigure your ATV and make sure that the audio output is Dolby Digital.

iMac 27-inch Mid 2010 (wow....that old...eeeks!), WD My Book 1TB Firewire,WD My Passport Air 500GB, Magic Mouse,Magic Trackpad,
iPhone 5C, iPod Nano 4GB 3rd Gen, ATV2.
MOTM October 2012. These days normally happy with an occasional grumble.
