All of a sudden, I get the following error message:

"Back-up could not be completed. The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/fak’s iMac.sparsebundle” is already in use."

What is this? I could not find any answers on the Help pages.

i had the exact same problem.
what i did:
delete all and everything on time capsule
delete all connections between mac and time capsule
connect time capsule to mac and run a full backup over cable
set up wlan again
anything else did not help

Deleting everything should be a last resort. You didn't mention what version of Airport Utility you were using - but there are older version instructions available on the web. Otherwise if you have the latest version try this
Time Machine Backup

for me - that all did not work - sure deleting is the last option but saves your nerves ;-) i was having the problem for about 5 months and nobody could actually help so i guess that was the best thing to do as the backup was corrupt as well
