iMac G5 to Sony WEGA LCD

I just brought a Sony 50" LCD television. I currently have my iMac hooked up to it this way:

mini-VGA to VGA adapter, out of the Mac connected to a 6 foot male/male VGA cable which goes into the back of my Sony. Pretty good picture but just one thing. There is a slightly visible white band moving from bottom to top and repeating.

Is this just a side of effect of the output/conversion? Using multiple cables in one connection? And is there some other way to go from the Mac to the TV? Someone suggested a DVI to HDMI for the sharpest pic. But if I do the connections in my head that would be like 2 adapters and a HDMI cable. I think.

I'm new to this forum so sorry if this is posted in the wrong area.

thanks

iMac output is analog, not digital, DVI and HDMI aren't options.
