How to connect Midi keyboard

I have a Roland PC 200 Midi keyboard with a Midi to USB connect cable. How can I make my iMac to recognize this keyboard.
My expectation was that connecting it to one of the USB ports would show this Device in the "Finder" under the Device heading. No such luck!
