My dvd drive on my old macbook seems like it's been squashed which appears to be a common problem on the A1181.
So I've taken it apart and found it has the code uj-857-c 678-0557b but I can't find anywhere that sells this model. Found plenty of very similar ones but don't want to buy one that won't work with my machine. Any ideas which other models could be compatible? |

Go over to OWC and see what is available for your Macbook.
Upgrade Apple Mac SuperDrive / Optical Drive Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer! |

You can go here to have them install it:
https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarra...JrrP!594096900 PS - optical drives are commodities - interchangeable "standard" parts where you get to pick specs and brand, price, etc. Admittedly not a lot of branded choices for slot-loading drives... Most online sellers say specifically "suitable for Macbook." example: http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=c3_nav_i...%2Ck%3Amacbook and read more here: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook-...lacement/518/1 Last edited by gsahli; 04-09-2012 at 01:39 PM. |
