My dvd drive on my old macbook seems like it's been squashed which appears to be a common problem on the A1181.

So I've taken it apart and found it has the code uj-857-c 678-0557b but I can't find anywhere that sells this model. Found plenty of very similar ones but don't want to buy one that won't work with my machine. Any ideas which other models could be compatible?

Go over to OWC and see what is available for your Macbook.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately that site is American tho. I'm also looking for a direct apple replacement not an aftermarket one and they only have 1 option which is a generic fit-all

PS - optical drives are commodities - interchangeable "standard" parts where you get to pick specs and brand, price, etc. Admittedly not a lot of branded choices for slot-loading drives...
Most online sellers say specifically "suitable for Macbook."

So what is wrong with OWC being in the USA? Even here Down Under they are the best, and cheapest, suppliers of accessories available. With Air Mail postage rates best option and after sales service is first class.
