Hi I have an imac g3 mac os 10.4.11 and am trying to use an AMACOM external dvd player to watch dvds, however when I switch it on nothing happens. also it has a red light on top, not sure if this should stay red or not. I tried putting a dvd and a cd in but still nothing happens, no icon on desktop or in disk utility, Help please.

How about a model number for that Amacom DVD player? There are many different models shown when I do a search. Need to determine if the one you have is compatible with that G3 iMac.

Is the optical drive also mains powered?
A USB2 device on an iMac G3 may simply be unable to get enough power from the USB port. Card reader draws much less power than an optical drive. Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer! |
