I have an old Power Mac G4 MDD with a PowerPC processor. It's becoming unreliable and I would like to back up all the contents to an external hard drive that is also compatible with my new MacBook Pro.

I am prepared to purchase the Western Digital My Passport Studio, but I can't find anywhere if that hard drive is compatible with a PowerPC ... anyone have any insight?

Or other suggestions for an external hard drive (firewire port a must) that is compatible?

Thanks,
Mike.

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Have a look at this link about partitioning and formatting a Firewire external HDD:-

Formatting & Partitioning a Hard Drive in OS X

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
