So I created this external hard drive to hold everything on my 2009 MacBook Pro.
EVERYTHING. Best Buy fulfilled their "No Lemon Policy" with me since they messed my laptop up so many times... (yeah I know- first mistake was buying it from them- not apple) and gave me the newest 2011 MacBook Pro with the i7 processor. Well, I was trying to use Migration Assistant (again, because I have had to re-build my laptop 3 times because they keep not fixing the issues & it has worked all 3 times) and my hard drive is not showing up. I tried to get it to mount but it won't because the "S.M.A.R.T. Status" is not supported... WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? AND HOW DO I FIX IT?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!!?! THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH

Yep, the protocols involved are not fully implemented on externals. So, it's not failing to mount because of this.. S.M.A.R.T is working as designed.
we certainly need more information. What type of drive? What type of formatting? What type of connection? Please open console and post any errors logged when you try and mount the drive. mike This machine kills fascists Got # ? phear the command line! |

I'd see if you could return that to Best Buy as well. Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics! |
