I Will I is on a distinguished road

I apologize if this question seems redundant but looking on this site and many others I have not been able to find a clear answer. I currently have an Iomega NAS device that supports AFP and is working just fine on my LAN, my problem exists when trying to share files with other MAC users. The software that Iomega provides for Mac users just plain doesn't work properly but this device supports AFP so **** the software I just want people to connect manually. The problem is I do not know what the external address for my NAS is and what alterations, port forwarding and such, need to be done to my router to make this possible. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
