I've just inherited an old but working HP Deskjet 340 portable printer which I'm trying to get working with my macbook for use away from home. It's has a centronics parallel printer connection but I've bought a USB/parallel lead and new ink cartridge. When I select this printer, my mac identifies it correctly as a 340 and diplays the right picture but rather than print it immediately goes offline.

I've tried ading it though system utilities but still get the offline problem.

I know it's an old bit of kit but it would be very useful to get this working. Any ideas good people?

Try this:
usbtb - high performance USB printing
(seems to help USB-parallel cables)

gshli - Thanks for the suggestion. I'll certainly give it a try when I return home in a couple of days.
