Hi!
I would appreciate any help you can give!! I have a desktop PC with my Canon Pixma 610 attached and a wireless cisco router. I am trying to use the printer with my new macbook pro. the wireless network is working and I can see the printer on my macbook with network magic. When I try to use is, it says the printer is not intstalled. I downloaded the printer driver from canon, and installed (more than once), but the driver software does not seem to be installed. Any advice? Thanks very much!! L |

Go back to the Canon site and download their network software (I believe there are three files to download including network tools) for the Pixma 610. During the installation of the software it will ask for permission to use your wireless network authentication. Reply yes, (you may have to key in the password) and it should set it self up. Make sure you have a good USB connection to the MBP first.
I've done this twice with my Pixma MP 620 on two different networks. |

Print drivers are done differently on OS X as compared to Windows. On OS X, manufacturers can create drivers that support exactly the comm protocol that the manufacturer wants supported. You will find that the Canon-provided driver for the 610 supports USB and Bluetooth - no network protocols. (and you have to buy a separate Bluetooth adapter from Canon) To use the "standard" network protocols provided in OS X, like Windows Printing (Samba), LPD or IPP, etc, you must use a CUPS driver - a driver that is created to work with the CUPS printing system. One such CUPS driver is the Gutenprint driver set that Apple included in OS X. You can see if your model is supported by an update, here: Gutenprint for Mac OS X If your model isn't supported, you can either connect the USB directly to your Mac, or, you can try another CUPS driver from ZEDOnet | PrintFab Mac OS X | PrintFab - the Printer Driver RIP for Mac OS X |
