Kinda like the Western Digital and Lacie but keep in mind they all die at some point there
is no perfect unit only personal preference. Prices will vary by volume and type of connection I sway towards the Lacie D2 because I can connect it four different ways one never knows but for just a USB connection the WD works great and is reasonably priced. |

My preference is Seagate personally, nothing but good experience with them, they can take a battering too. If you find a post helpful, don't forget to use the reputation system (top right of post.) Join us in the IRC! How? Add me on Steam, Origin or PSN (Vita): robduckyworth |

If your Mac has Firewire connections, get an external with that type of connection. Especially if it has FW800. That's what I use and it's lightning fast for backups.
Brand name isn't quite as important. I have a Western Digital, but other brands are fine too. 16GB iPhone 5, 64GB Wi-Fi only iPad 1st Gen. Reminder: Please include your Mac's specs. This will make it much easier for the other members to assist you.

As far as brand goes I went with the G-Drive because of the Hitachi drive and the Oxford chipset. Many here recommend the Mercury Elite from OWC for the same reason. I've only had mine for a few days and have only used it once so my recommendation won't mean much. It was a complete no brainer as far as use goes. Plug it in, turn it on and it just works. No setup needed. Ran quiet and cool. Good luck on you decision. I labored over which brand to buy. There does not seem to be a clear cut favorite. Don No hum, no buzz, no problem. |
