I have the Micro DVI on the macbook. Will a Micro DVI to VGA send out the full resolution I want?

Do you own a MacBook Air model? The adapter you refer to is for the Air, not the MacBook or MacBook Pro line. If you own the Air and your TV has a DVI input, it would be best to purchase the Micro DVI to DVI cable instead for best results. DVI to VGA may work OK, but it depends on your TV.

Since the op has not verified they have a MacBook Air and not a MacBook:

Just to be specific for others that may run into this thread - if you're looking at this thread and you have a "MacBook" you do not have a micro-DVI port on your machine. As of the date of this post, Only the "MacBook Air" in the Apple line-up has ever had micro-DVI.

For those that find this thread through a google search and are on the hunt for how to get your Mac connected to your TV, you'll probably want to have a read of the following thread.

Connecting your Mac to a TV
