NEED HELP! How can I back up ext hdd?

I have a 1TB WD external hdd, it wasn't working so I tried repairing it using disk utility, and it said to backup as many files as possible and erase the disk. HOW CAN I BACKUP THE FILES??? I really don't want to lose them, I mean I REALLY don't want to lose them. Somebody please tell me how I can backup the files..

Mac Specs: 2009 MBP, Black speakers, Black Benq second monitor, black(ish) iPhone 5s, Black 2012 iPad, etc.

You need Disk Warrior, and you need it RIGHT NOW. You can buy it online or from your local Mac dealer.

DON'T do anything else to that disk until you get and run Disk Warrior.

For backing up your external drive to another (external) drive , you can use SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner.
