NEED HELP! How can I back up ext hdd?

I have a 1TB WD external hdd, it wasn't working so I tried repairing it using disk utility, and it said to backup as many files as possible and erase the disk. HOW CAN I BACKUP THE FILES??? I really don't want to lose them, I mean I REALLY don't want to lose them. Somebody please tell me how I can backup the files..

For backing up your external drive to another (external) drive , you can use SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner.
