Newegg.com - Pioneer 8X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 6X DVD+R DL 8X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 5X DVD-RAM 24X CD-R 24X CD-RW 2MB Cache USB 2.0 Black Slim Portable DVD/CD Writer Model DVR-XD08 - External CD / DVD Drives

That drive should work OK with your MacBook. In the rare event that it doesn't, NewEgg has a good return policy.

Stick with Pioneer, but on closer inspection, that linked example drive is USB only. Not a bad thing, but firewire or combo would be better.
Check out OWC SuperDrive DVD, DVD Dual-Layer, CD-R/RW, Blu-Ray Optical Drive Solutions FireWire, USB2, eSATA.
