After reading online about the success some people had with the Kensington Dual Monitor Adapter (K33907), I decided to give it a try. Order one from CDW for around $100 and got it in a few days.

Kensington's web site states: "Now works with MacBook computers via the beta version of the Mac driver!" in the first paragraph of the description. CDW's site proclaims the Mac computability as well.

So, I got the device, downloaded the drivers, rebooted the computer and plugged in the adapter. Blackscreen! I tinkered with the display control which showed the extra monitor as available. Looked through the manual. Searched the web. Scoured the Kensington website, which declares, "This is a beta version, there are outstanding bugs (see note to users) and neither Technical Support nor Customer Service will be able to provide support with the driver installation and functions. Please download the user guide before installing the driver."

I still sent a message to their tech support anyway, but got back a note saying, "we really don't know anything about Macs".

I can only surmise that something changed with the way the most recent batch (post July '09) of MacBooks handles video and they no longer work with the Beta driver.

Just a note of warning for those about to buy...

CDW has always had a good return policy. Send it back for a refund and don't let them charge you a restocking fee.

Regards.
