Hey, I'm new to these forums and i did a search but i didn't find anything that really answered my question. I want to know if there's a way to connect a whole audio system (like speakers and a sub) to my mbp. I'm probably looking for surround but to be honest, i dont really know anything about this area.

A) computer speakers - I'd recommend you look for some that will accept an optical input

B) get yourself a receiver and speakers

If it all can come from one output cord, plug it in to your headphone port

what exactly is an optical port? and if i have it all running out of my headphone port, will that still sound fine?

also, how would i even do that? wouldn't i need some kind of "power bar" to plug the sub and speakers into if i only have one output from my mbp.
