So I bought a TOSlink cable* to connect my macbook pro to my z550 5.1 speakers, and only the front speakers work, I can't get any of the rear speakers, or the center speaker to work. Are there any settings that I need to change? I plugged the optical side into the speakers, and the other end into the headphone jack of my macbook pro. I'm using Max OS x 10.5.8
* Amazon.com: 6ft Toslink to Mini Toslink Cable: Electronics Edit: I figured out a way for dvds, but what about for music using iTunes and youtube videos, etc etc? Last edited by akj27; 09-14-2009 at 06:07 PM. |

It will only output 5.1 from 5.1 sources. So, as you've discovered, listening to most DVDs you'll have 5.1. But, there is not the option to take a mono or stereo source and output in 5.1 that I've found.
