Hi I have a macbook pro and I just got some eternal hard drives for it.
1. WD 1TB
2. WD 320 Pocket Drive
3. WD 500 GB

I have formatted 320 to extended Journal and the 500 to Extended Journal Cases sensitive...I don't know what that means. I just read that is what the they should be formatted to. But when I delete stuff they are not freeing up space. I have this problem for a while. I have looked around for some good explanation, but have not really found one. I am not looking to make it compatible with a PC. I just need it to read/write/and free up space when data is deleted all for Mac only. Weather you can answer my question or send me a link to my answer that would be awesome! Thank for all your help ~ Josh

Are you properly emptying the Trash? When mounting an external drive and deleting files from it, the drive must remain mounted while the Trash is emptied. Dismounting the drive prior to emptying the Trash will not remove the deleted items from the drive, and in fact, they will remain hidden on the drive and will be difficult to find.

Regards.

For anyone experiencing this problem, try disconnecting your external hd and reboot. Your free space should show up now.
