Hi,

I have an early 2008 White Macbook that only has a combo drive. I want to buy an external DVD burner but I'm struggling to find OSX compatible drives.

Can anyone suggest a Mac compatible drive for me please?

Thanks

Barry

Lacie and Sony among others make firewire drives that are compatable with it, and that's your best bet really. Firewire is better for Mac's because then you have the option of being able to use them to install from.
I've had both makes and they are both excellent.
Actually I have a Lacie lightscribe to sell if you're UK based.

I am UK based.

What do you have, how much do you want for it?

Can you post a link to the model so I can look at it?

Actually, you can install from a USB external drive as well as Firewire since your MacBook is an Intel machine. No need to spend extra money on Firewire.

Any good quality external DVD burner should be OK. Folks here seem to like the models made by Pioneer.

Thanks for the help so far.

Could someone post some links to the types of burner that would be suitable?

Sorry to ask daft questions.

Here's a partial listing of DVD burners from Amazon.com in the UK:

Most of them should work with your MacBook.

All should work OK. DVD burners are pretty much the same and unless they are specifically designed for a certain system, usually will be OK to use for either OS X or Windows.

Amazon has a good return policy if you should buy one that for some reason does not work.

Nope, they will just work.

The one I have for sale is very similar to the second one here but dual layer:

LaCie - Desktop DVD±RW Drives: FireWire & USB 2.0

£30 plus postage (including the firewire cable)
I can send you an actual picture tomorrow and full specs if you're interested.
