? Case for 17" macbook pro

I need a case for my new 17 inch macbook pro that is on order. Because of the expense of the laptop I've been looking at the Pelican 1495 cc1 and 1495 cc2 cases on line. It's a 5 hour drive to the nearest store that sells pelican cases. Does anyone use one of these cases for their laptop? I'm interested in any info on how well the cases protect the laptop from damage as well as scratches. Is there room for extra gadgets? Thanks.
