Hello all,

I am coming here to get help and I know that I will get it.

I have a Macbook Pro operating on the OS Extended (journaled).

I have a Comstar 500 gig external hard drive that I have been using for a year and a half with no problems.

All of a sudden the external wouldn't mount. I took it to Future shop and it mounted on their PC. ??

So that means that the computer isn't communicated with the external. I switched cords, tried ever combo on different usb ports, nothing.

I installed disk warrior and it didn't show up. Am I not doing something with it? Is is supposed to find the external or something?

I tried some stuff on Terminal but didn't want to mess anything up, any commands that I should try?

I find this very strange and need some help, I am an editor and want this up and running asap, any assistance would help greatly.

Thank you,

Willy.

Does it show in Disk Utility?

Liquid and computers don't mix. It might seem simple, but we see an incredible amount of people post here about spills. Keep drinks and other liquids away from your expensive electronics!

No, it does not show in Disk Utility.

Could it be that when I upgraded to OS Extended the external didn't keep up?

Have you tried other drives / devices in the same ports? i.e. do you know it is an issue with the drive as opposed to with the port? I ask because I just had an issue where both the USB ports on my Macbook stopped working (for all devices).
[that fixed itself when I booted in safe mode, and then rebooted again - I know cwa107 is skeptical of booting in safe mode having any effect on ports because he/she said so on another thread - but it did work for me in this case. I accept that it may have purely been coincidence, but I say if coincidence works for you then run with it...]

Other devices work just fine in both ports. I used a flash drive, a printer. All good.
