I use portable HDs ~ 100% mobile
The iOmega 160 gig USB is the oldest and is working flawlessly
The Formac 500 gig Firewire & USB is used via Firewire 400 for Time Machine with no problems at all.

~ 13" MacBook Air. OSX 10.9 ~ iPad 2 & iPhone ~
