G4 / OSX 10.4.11

Stock video card: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX

My 15-yr-old CRT (RasterOps MC801HR 21”) will surely implode in the very near future.

Am looking to get a 22" widescreen with as good color rendition as I can get, but for as CHEAP as possible (don't want to exceed $300).

Are there any conflicts between my sort-of-old system and a new widescreen monitor?... images must display as proportionally correct... can't afford a new video card unless it is DIRT CHEAP, and/or will opt for a standard-width LCD if needed.

Usage: graphic design, print, websites, Photoshop etc... no games or movies.

Mostly concerned about potential conflicts, but manufacturer recommendations welcome... Viewsonic, Samsung, LG look passable enough in the stores at this price point, if not particularly exciting.

Thanks in advance.

Any of these brands should work with a Mac. I currently using a Samsung SyncMaster226BW and for my Graphic Design work and it's just beautiful sitting on my desk.

After returning two LG's (22 inchers) today I would not recommend them. I am sure there are people that have had no issues with LG, but I am not one of them. A few years ago I bought a 52" DLP from LG and it blew up. Now I had to return two LG monitors due to stuck pixels.

Thanks for the replies.

But I'm mostly concerned with specifically knowing that a new widescreen monitor will work with my old stock video card: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX.

My old CRT is a standard 4:3.

And I really need to avoid extra expense of a new video card.

Thanks again.

Widescreen shouldn't be an issue, the main question is what kind of resolution the mx supports.

Plus check what kind of outputs it has: If it's only VGA, you may want to get a newer card with DVI anyway.

Thanks, Aptmunich.

Looks like the stock video card is good for 2048x1536 @ 75hz.

What's more important than anything is COST... I'd rather not get a monitor at all, but my CRT is visibly dying.

So, no new card if I can help it... a VGA > DVI adapter cable will be less costly.
