MacBook - Macbook reading external hard drives

I have a macbook and when i plug in any kind of storage device through usb or firewire it wont show up... but anything else will show up...Any Ideas?

Check it out in Disk Utility and see if it's there. If it doesn't show up, you probably need to format it first.

It doesn't need to be reformatted because it shows up on my other mac.... That's why im confused

Try resetting your PRAM.
