USB Stick File Problem

I have a have a Mac Word file that I saved to a USB stick and then opened and work on on a PC. I then saved the work back to the USB from the PC without saving it anywhere else (stupid I know).

Now I am unable to open any files from the USB stick on PC (it asks to format the disk) or on Mac where it says the USB stick cannot be accessed.

Does anyone know how I could get to the Word file on Mac or even PC?

Sounds like the filesystem is corrupted on the flash drive. You could try running chkdsk on it in Windows (assuming it mounts).
