External Hard Drives.... what size?

If i have a 250 GB hard drive macBook, what size extenal HD should i buy as a backup drive? I'm not into much hardcore photo or video editing... yet. for the most part though i just want to back up my music and photos. so what size drive should i get?

500 Gb sounds about right. Get a disk large enough to hold at least two full backups. I do this. I make a new backup and THEN I delete the oldest one. That way, even if the new backup fails for some reason, I still have the older one.

My iStuff: 64GB iPhone 5, 64GB iPad4, 30GB iPod Video, 16GB iPod Touch
My OS': Mac OS X Lion, Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Mac OS X Tiger, Mac OS 9.2.2, openSUSE 10.3

500GB would be the minimum that I'd purchase.. If you're anywhere near a Fry's they have a sale going with 500GB external for $89.

i got a 500 gb lacie d2 quadra it's called. bought it at the apple store and its working great, I've got it hooked up to firewire, took about 45 minutes tops to do 38 gb backup.
